On May 8 and 9, the Public Security Leadership Development Program, promoted by Leme in partnership with FGV EBAPE and Universidad EAFIT, welcomed researcher Spencer Chainey for the first classes of the intensive course “Understanding and Tackling Organized Crime,” held in person at FGV EBAPE in Rio de Janeiro. The activities will continue on May 15 and 16.

Spencer Chainey is a professor at University College London (UCL) and director of the Latin America unit at the Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science (JDI). With more than 20 years of experience, he works at the intersection of academic research and policing practices, collaborating with governments and institutions in countries such as Argentina, Mexico, Uruguay, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Germany, the United States, and Canada, among others.

The classes are part of the training pathway of the program’s first edition, which is focused on strengthening the technical, analytical, and strategic capacities of public security and criminal justice professionals. The sessions already held addressed topics related to understanding the dynamics of organized crime. The goal is to bring professionals closer to methodologies and tools used in different international contexts for violence prevention and crime reduction.

The Public Security Leadership Development Program is an initiative of Leme, carried out in partnership with FGV EBAPE and Universidad EAFIT, aimed at strengthening public management in the field of security. The program brings together professionals from the Civil and Military Police, the prison system, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the Judiciary in a journey of technical and strategic training focused on the formulation and implementation of evidence-informed public policies.
