Last week (May 19–22), Leme carried out a series of technical visits in Fortaleza, Ceará, as part of the Impact Evaluation of the Integrated Program for Violence Prevention and Reduction (PReVio). The agenda was attended by Palloma Marciano, Leme’s Project Lead, and Tony Araújo, a researcher at the organization.
The main activity of the visit was participation in the continuing education training for Child Development Agents (ADIs), who are responsible for implementing the Child Development Support Plus Program (PADIN+). Among the five programs evaluated under PReVio, PADIN+ focuses on strengthening positive parenting among socially vulnerable families with children aged 6 to 12 enrolled in public schools across ten municipalities in Ceará.
In addition to the training sessions, the Leme team held meetings with the Coordination of Education and Social Promotion of the Ceará State Department of Education (Seduc), which is responsible for implementing PADIN+, and with the Coordination of the Early Years of Elementary Education of the Municipal Department of Education (SME) of Fortaleza. The meetings addressed the role of the collaborative framework between the state and municipalities in the implementation of educational public policies and how this coordination can contribute to the development of the Impact Evaluation.
The team also visited the Infante Rosalina Rodrigues Municipal School to closely observe the work carried out by ADIs in the implementation of PADIN+. During the visit, the collection of primary data from families benefiting from the program was initiated, a key stage for conducting the evaluation. Subsequently, the Leme team met with officials from the Civil House of the Government of Ceará to discuss the next steps of the evaluation and the coordination process with the government departments responsible for the PReVio programs.
The project conducted by Leme seeks to assess the effectiveness of initiatives aimed at preventing violence and strengthening evidence-based public policies, contributing to the improvement of the strategies implemented by the Government of Ceará.
