Last Wednesday (27), Ramón Chaves, Executive Manager of Leme, participated in the launch event of the book “A Rebirth for the State of Rio de Janeiro”, held at the Rio de Janeiro State Court of Accounts (TCE-RJ). The event brought together authors, researchers, public managers, and experts to discuss diagnoses and proposals aimed at the development of the state.

The publication brings together contributions from different fields of knowledge on strategic issues for Rio de Janeiro, including public security, economic development, public finances, education, health, governance, climate change, and oil. Its objective is to contribute to public debate through the presentation of diagnoses and proposals focused on institutional strengthening and the state's development.

During the event, Ramón presented the chapter “Diagnosis and Proposals for Reducing Violent Crime in the State of Rio de Janeiro”, co-authored with Joana Monteiro, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Leme. The chapter analyzes the main challenges related to public security in Rio de Janeiro and proposes measures aimed at reducing violence and strengthening the institutions responsible for crime prevention and criminal investigations.

Among the proposals presented by the authors are prioritizing the investigation of violent deaths and deepening strategies to combat connections between public officials and criminal groups. The chapter also discusses pathways to expand the state's institutional capacity to address violent crime, with a focus on evidence-informed public policies.

The event featured the participation of Márcio Pacheco, President of the TCE-RJ; Fábio Giambiagi, editor of the publication and economist at the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES); as well as researchers and specialists responsible for the book’s other chapters.
